|
Evansville, IN
|
Eva Kinnaird Kattau, 74, of Evansville, Indiana, went to be with the LORD on January 21, 2015. She was the daughter of the late E.W. Kinnaird and Eva Kinnaird. She was born on November 10, 1940 in Adairville, Kentucky. Eva graduated from North High School in 1958 and received her BA in education from University of Evansville in 1958. For 38 years she taught at Reitz High School as a beloved English and drama teacher. In 2000, she retired from teaching at Reitz. For the last two years she taught the Intensive English Program at University of Southern Indiana. Eva never really retired as her teaching and theater career was a passion and calling that she continued to live out. Eva never had children of her own, but had thousands to whom she was not only a drama coach and English teacher, but also a mother. To quote one of her students, Kathy Jones, "Eva always had a smile for you, and if you needed a shoulder to cry on and a hug to make your day better, she would do that too. I have always called her mom, because when my mom could not be at school to guide me, Ms. Kattau would always be the one waiting to help when I went to her. She gave more love and had more compassion for her work and students than any teacher I know. I will miss her more than I can ever describe right now. I know that she is in a better place than we are, and I hope the stage lights are shining bright on her as she takes the stage in heaven." She attended Christian Fellowship Church and was a devoted sister to Ann Ritz and Danny Kinnaird, and to their spouses Al Ritz and Donna Kinnaird. She was an amazing aunt to Brian Ritz, Betsy Hendricks, Holly Korby, Annie Williams, Johnny Kinnaird, Tyler Kinnaird, and their families. Friends may visit 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, January 23, 2015 at Alexander North Chapel. A time to reminisce and celebrate Eva's life will begin at 7 PM. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Christian Fellowship Church, 4100 Millersburg Road, Evansville, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderburgh Humane Society, 400 Millner Industrial Drive, Evansville, IN 47710. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderNorthChapel.com.

D. 11/12/1974
Henry Luerrsen, 57, whose history classes at Reitz were noted for their freewheeling discussions, died at Welborn Baptist Hospital.
A teacher for 34 years, he believed that students should be free to express themselves openly and preferred a relaxed classroom atmosphere with easy exchanges of views on both history and current events.
“He was a dedicated teacher,” said Reitz asst principal Donald Hartig. He was well liked by the student body.
A former student commented “All the kidsthought he was fantastic. He was an open liberal type guy willing to listen. He really enjoyed teaching”
Luerrsen had two main hobbies, stamp collecting which he enjoyed for most of his life and fishing which intersted him only a few years ago.
He had been the treasurer of the Evansville stamp Club for many years. He specialized in German stamps, possessing an extensive collection.
A few years ago he and his wife Margaret bought a mobile home. Nearly every weekend they could, they would drive to a fishing site, camping out and fishing together.
